Written By : FijiSun Sports Desk. Tuatua, Labasa lad Mira Saheb will captain the national Futsal team at the Oceania World Cup qualifiers set to get underway at the Vodafone Arena from this evening. The 24-year-old, according to team management is the most experienced player in the squad and also the only surviving member from the team that played at the 2004 qualifiers in Canberra.
“I was the youngest player in the 2004 team. Australia won and we had finished fourth. It is an honour to play for the national team and to be the captain. We will be representing the country and I’m proud to be given the responsibility of leading Fiji,’’ he said.
Mira, the son of Fiji FA development officer Hussein Saheb, said Fiji players are motivated to win a world cup berth.
“This year Fiji and national U23 teams have not done too well so this qualifier is one more chance for us to make an impression.
“Our performance will shape the future of Futsal in the country. A lot of people have been coming to watch the local Futsal tournaments and they will also come to see how the national team competes to know where we are in the game.’’
The skipper said he could not promise a win in tonight’s game against New Caledonia
“We can’t promise anything. We don’t want to go there and be overconfident but we will be there to do our best for the country,’’ Mira said.
