Written By : FijiSun Sports Desk. Crusaders flanker Aminiasi Nava and tighthead prop Setefano Somoca were impressive in the Fiji Warriors huge 41-5 win over Papua New Guinea yesterday. Both Nava and Somoca picked up two tries each in the match to make national selectors take notice. Fiji Warriors coach Ifereimi Tawake said the two players had the material to play for the national side after a sterling performance in the curtain raiser.
Tawake said his side had stuck to Fiji’s traditional style of rugby.
“The boys showed running rugby and what we are renowned for,” Tawake said.
“I have also told Ilivasi Tabua to look out for Nava who has been improving in every game and Setefano, these two players are to be watched closely in the future.”
The Warriors led 14-5 at halftime before they ran away with the match in the second half with seven tries. Centre Tikiko Uluiviti, Ropate Ratu and Mosese Volavola scored the other tries in the second spell. PNG coach Billy Rapilla said the side used the match to build up for next year’s world cup qualifiers. Rapilla said Fiji showed them how to play rugby and they hope to take cue from the game.
“We were fortunate to play Fiji who are the best in the Pacific and they basically told us to come back next time,” Rapilla said.
“We are preparing for the FORU Cup which will be held next year for the lower nations and we hope to do well there and play Samoa in the qualifiers.”
Nava had scored the Warriors opening try but PNG came back into the match with Chris Hogi touching down as they trailed 5-7.
