Written By : VUNIWAQA BOLA . Ra did not play any games yesterday in the knockout competition of the MH Netball Tour. Coach, Suli Tabuya yesterday said they came to play as Ra but was not allowed instead told to join Saivou, another team from the province. Tabuya said there were some differences between them and the management of the Saivou team. “They told us not to use the Ra name because the chiefs from the province did not like it.” Tabuya said the Ra team is made up of girls from Nakorotubu, Nalawa and Saivou villages.
She added Netball Fiji and the organisers told them to combine with Saivou which is made up of girls from Nanukuloa Village alone.
“The girls did not want to combine with Saivou.”
Tabuya said they have been playing from last year and in the same tournament and to be turned down was something they could not understand.
“We feel sorry for the girls because we have been developing the girls for three years now.”
She added the girls have lost their interest in the game due to what happened.
“We are very disappointed.”
Tabuya said she took the Ra team up and last year was the best for them as they were able to reach the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, NF president, Milika Munivai yesterday said they could not allow Ra to come with more than three teams.
“It’s such a small area and to have three teams from there is not right.”
“We just need 16 team and we cant afford to have more.”
She also confirmed that Saivou did what was asked of them and which was to bring their affiliation fees and more.”
“We never received anything from Ra.
“I feel sorry for the players but they need to know that the door is not closed to anyone.”
“It’s not that we are taking sides.”
“All they had to do was to merge.”
