Written By : Sun Fiji Newsroom. The food we eat is the main source of energy and nutrients which our body needs in order to grow. It is therefore, that we eat meals that contain a variety of food. This will provide you with the nutrients that our body needs.
A healthy meal will give you the right amount of vitamins, minerals, proteins and energy. A balanced meal consists of 50% carbohydrates,16% proteins and 34% fruits and vegetables.
Energy foods are required by the body for body heat, body functions and energy to work and exercise.
Proteins provide us with vital nutrients for growth, development, maintenance and repair of tissues.
The fruits and vegetables provide us with vitamins for a healthy nervous system and strong blood. It is advised that an individual should take 5-6 serving of fruits and vegetables a day for a healthy lifestyle. Together with a proper diet, fluids are also important for our bodies.
The coconut water, fruit juices, and milk are nutritious drinks that help in rehydration and quenching thirst. Not drinking enough fluids may lead to urinary infections and bad health. Milk provides essential proteins and it is an important source of calcium for growing children.
Soft drink contains a lot of sugar which gives energy without providing other important nutrients needed for health. Drinking lots of soft drinks can cause bad teeth and lead to obesity.
