Written By : Seruwaia Bula Nadi Airport. I agree partially with Rev Akuila Yabaki’s comments that the military needs to be an institution where people can have ultimate protection and security confidence in.
Mr Yabaki wants to end the coup culture by means of education, continued consultation amongst parties and broader discussions.
My recommendation for our situation would be to reduce the military by half, and ensure that projects carried out are developmental rather than intelligence.
The reason for this is due to the inability of the current regime and the military to agree whether the 1997 Constitution is still on or if it isn’t.
In theory it is, but there is no evidence of its existence.
Rev Yabaki should promote in the people’s charter that for all future coup makers, there will be no pardon, no amnesty, for such disgraceful acts of treason.
To the People’s Charter group, if you want to see Fiji progress, let’s go the whole way and nip the problem in the bud, ensuring that leaders do not compromise and play with constitutions and legal documents to suit personal interests.
And in doing so leading the nation to a demoralising confusion of double standards and compromised government, judiciary and civilian downturn.
