Written By : MACIU MALO. Highlanders head coach Jo Toakula is confident the Flying Fijians can win the game against the New Zealand Maoris on Saturday.
The former national Under 19 coach is banking on the lethal combination of the inside backs in Stormers blockbusting back Sireli Naqelevuki and Saracens flyer Kameli Ratuvou to do the damage.
“Ratuvou and Naqelevuki played well alongside each other for the first time last week and if they again retain their positions this weekend then they will be unstoppable,” he said.
Toakula has also marked tireless flankers in man-mountain Semisi Naevo and Aca Ratuva as the men to watch in this important clash.
“Naevo and Ratuva were fast at the breakdown last week and the Samoan flyhalf Roger Warren hardly had any room to operate because of the pressure applied by these rugged flankers.”
“The combination of Naqelevuki and Ratuvou in the midfield will definitely boost our chances and of course the presence of Naevo and Ratuva at the sides of the scrums will provide the spark in the team.”
“These four players played really well last week and if they are given another opportunity this Saturday they will be a handful to the opposition.”
He said the national side played really well last week despite the long layoff and if they continued from where they left off definitely they would win against the Maoris.
“The team clicked in their first game last week and if they can do the same I have no doubts about it that they will come out victors.”
However Toakula says the team needs to stay focus in the game because last week they lost concentration in the last quarter allowing the Samoans to hit back with three tries.
“I hope they have rectified that mistake because we cannot afford to do that against the Maoris,’’ he said.
