Written By : CHRISTOPHER CHAND. Two exciting golf tournaments take centre stage at the Lautoka Golf Club with the Process Valves stroke event set for Saturday and the Kelectronics of Australia stableford on Monday.
LGC vice-captain Suren Pillay said the course has been mowed and is in top condition for the golf bonanza this weekend.
Pillay said the club would be a hive of activity due to the break from soccer tournaments.
“We have some top players who will be in the race for the lucrative prizes in the A, B and C grades. We are expecting more than 50 golfers to take the field including players from neighbouring Ba and Nadi clubs,” Pillay said.
Lautoka soccer boss Shalendra Prasad and coach Dennis Singh will among the sure starters for the tournament. Prasad, who is one of the trustees of LGC, will make a return to the golf link course after six months.
“This is a positive time for me and the coach to take a deserved break from soccer and to play golf for a change. We will definitely give chairman Raymond Singh a good run,” Lautoka FA president Prasad said. Regulars Asish Kumar, Nair brothers Christopher and Daniel, former national soccer reps Vinod Chand and Amenatave Sova are among the list of front runners. “Rivalry amongst the players will be the order of the day,” Pillay said.
The competition tomorrow tees off at midday while the event on Monday will hit off at 9am.
