Written By : Floyd Robinson Lautoka. It appears that there is an urgent need for communities to be involved in crime prevention through the formation of neighbourhood watch schemes. Firstly, increasing the price of fuel, transportation, basic food items and unemployment rates may lead to more people resorting to desperate measures. Secondly, our police force has a huge task given that the ratio of an officer to a member of the public is about 1:800. Whether or not they are well resourced is another issue. Whatever one’s opinion is, the reality of the day is that community members must play a greater role in combating crime.
