Written By : E Naivadra Suva. Fiji’s coup culture is not as simple as A B C or 1 2 3.
Not only does it have its origins in the indigenous tribal warfare of the past which was led by chiefs in the frontline, but it is also among other factors a result of poor governance practices of previous administrations which neglected to consistently address the need for capacity building and strengthening of indigenous Fijian administrative structures in particular the leadership training of chiefs. Weak leadership allows opportunists to become so-called heroes and if as a result they inflict damage on us all it is because we have allowed them to.
The People’s Charter offers us an opportunity to control our own destiny once and for all.
