Written By : Jo Gonewai Suva . I am astonished at the belief that Fijians should refrain from traditional obligations to succeed in business.
The two can survive without depending on each other through discipline. I have an Australian friend who has just introduced his clothing business in Fiji claiming that our Indian brothers in business in Suva have continuously approached him to raise his prices as Fijians will buy anything without questioning the prices. This could be interpreted as cartel business operation in the making.
Others will refrain from any long term business transaction dealing with any other ethnic groups to keep the market to their cartel group.
Also many of my indigenous brothers who try to venture in business will experience how hard it is to break into the commercial world because of the existing business pact among the other traders.
