Written By : Dr A.Q Buksh Suva. The NCBBF says without one man one vote, the 1997 Constitution is undemocratic. Therefore we had undemocratic constitutions since 1970 on independence.
The question is how to change the present 1997 Constitution. The procedure is simple.
Reconvene the parliament soon.
Accept one man one vote.
Accept the Constitutional Council of Fiji. Accept people’s referendum(s) if any.
Institute a new and neutral interim government immediately.
Scale down the military gradually to zero and replace it by paramilitary forces of equal number of indigenous and non-indigenous people. The military shall have no political role to play.
General election should be held by March 2009. Leave all matters in the hands of an elected government thereafter.
Finally we do not need the NCBBF nor the Military Council. This is the way forward for Fiji and all other methods are merely a waste of time and money for the people of Fiji.
