Written By : Utiko Nabunobuno. Lautoka.. The FRU chief executive was quick to say that the thrashing of our national side to teams such as Australia A does not augur well with the development of tier-two rugby nations.
I think all he wants is for Fiji to win the IRB PNC competition rather than the development of Fijian players beyond the PRC (Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa).
We were thrashed by the Junior All Blacks last year by an almost similar margin. But what did we get out of it? In my opinion we played better than the Senior All Blacks at the RWC 2007 by scoring 20 points against the world champions while the Mighty All Blacks could not even score 20 against the fourth best team.
The good thing is that we’re playing a notch higher than our usual opponents in Tonga and Samoa. Maybe, we shouldn’t have cried for the Junior All Blacks to be taken away from the PNC. They are a blessing in disguise.
After all, we the fans and the greater rugby public gain more by watching more quality rugby at our home grounds rather than having to watch it on TV all the time.
