Raising animals for their meat production is one of the world’s leading sources of carbon dioxide. Animal agriculture is the leading contributor of methane (30 million tons comes from sewage ponds and heaps alone) a gas which is more than 20 times as powerful as carbon dioxide in trapping heat in the atmosphere.
Another gas, nitrous oxide, is about 300 times more potent as a global warming gas than carbon dioxide. And 65 per cent of this nitrous oxide is emitted from meat industries alone.
