I refer to Maika Bolataki’s article on respecting promises to the international community, particlualy the EU (FS 17/7). If I remember correctly the EU had demanded a 17 point plan for Fiji’s roadmap to democracy in early 2007. In recent years the EU is seen to champion the cause of peace, goodwill and good governance and is expected to apply the gentle rule of law and order from their end. It seems strange though why would they require enlisting its own army to oversee such commendable functions as announced in June 2007.
It’s obvious the European continent is reconstituting itself into a new political entity in the form of EU and intend with total conviction to become the strongest political force in the world. During the next few years, we will hear announcements, one after another, about the progressive strength and mounting capability of the EU in a more demanding role.
Interesting times are ahead of us as we shall witness how the local NGO’s, political parties and those who are vocal about democary and freedeom of speech will take their stand and react as the the EU takes centre stage to fulfill bible prophecy written by Prophet Daniel over 2600 years ago.
