Nabua Secondary School is the only school in Fiji operating the Matua Programme, giving a “second chance” to matured school leavers/ dropouts to come back to school and hopefully gain the necessary pre-requisites to enter tertiary institutions or job entry points.
The Matua Programme, is now in its fifth year, continues to provide opportunities for dropouts, teenage mothers, school leavers and less affluent in society by giving a second chance” at life.
There has been much debate on Fijian Education and Blueprint to improve the standard of indigenous education.
Whilst this continues, one thing remains certain and that is; there are children who are deprived of their right to education because our education system simply does not have a safety net, or an alternative support system to contain those who fail the system.
Our leaders continue to forge new bills and ideas but the question remains, when and where are they going to be fulfilled?
Thanks to Nabua Matua Programme, such initiatives will bridge the gaps within our society and quench the thirst for survival among our youths and those who yearn for a “second chance” in life.
