Written By : EMONI NARAWA. Fiji Touch Rugby champions Raiwaqa Flyers had all the reason to celebrate their New Year awarding their hardworking players on New Year’s Eve at the Central Cuisine in Suva.
Flyers won the U20, Mixed and Men’s category to create history in touch rugby. They also became the first ever club to award their hard working players for their effort during the season.
Over 200 guests were present to witness players receive their awards on Wednesday night.
Acting FTRA president Inoke Veresa said the occasion was a success.
“It was awesome. Everyone enjoyed themselves and to honor players that brought pride to the team,” he said.
“It was a special night with everything well organized even though they were the first club in the country to honor their players after a season.”
Veresa said last season was a memorable one and they need to take extra effort to climb another mountain of 2009.
He said it was hard to get to the top and it would be another main challenge to maintain their top form this season.
“It was good to we won all categories but the challenge now would be maintaining our performance for another year,” Veresa said.
“The players worked extra hard last season and they reward themselves being placed at the top. Other teams would be against us this time and we need to put in extra effort to maintain our performance.”
“We’re not going to sit back and relax and be comfortable with last season performance but to work extra hard to stay on top,” he said.
