Written By : ELIKI DRUGUNALEVU. The Jonati Mavoa Memorial Golf Tournament tees off on Saturday in a bid to raise money to help a cancer patient.
According to event organizer and son of the late Jonati Mavoa, Eroni Mavoa, the event has been running for more than 20 years and the money that the tournament has been able to collect have all been directed towards charity.
“The tournament has been running for about 23 years now, continuously and what ever we make out from the tournament have all been given to charity”, Mavoa said.
“At the moment we have a cancer patient and what ever amount of money we raise from this Saturday’s tournament will be for this person”.
According to Eroni, they are expecting a big turnout.
“Well nothing has been confirmed yet regarding the attendance but normally we have round about 120 people who come and participate so we are expecting the same this Saturday”, Mavoa said.
The tournament is being sponsored by Pacific Sun with a few other co-sponsors.
“The major sponsor for the tournament is Pacific Sun. Our minor sponsors are the Fiji Golf Club Pro-shop, the Ohana Restaurant in Nadi and also Sitiveni Rabuka,” said Mavoa.
According to Eroni, the winner for the one day tournament will get two return tickets to any Pacific Sun destination.
The game will tee off at the Vatuwaqa course at 9am with the last group expected to tee off at 1pm.
The game is expected to end at 5pm.
