Written By : MOIZ MUNIF. The national soccer team can do better if the selection procedure is restructured, says former national rep Usaia Tadu.
Veteran Tadu who is a current Navua rep believes a lot of good talent over the years had missed the eyes of the national selectors.
“If you look at the Fiji team it has always been dominated by a district which is performing well. Like Ba because of their victories in various competitions their players dominate the team.
“I believe players from other districts need to be looked at carefully also. There are a lot of talents which misses the eyes of the selectors. If we have a well balanced side I believe we can do better at international level.
Fiji did not have a good run in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers but ended the year on a perfect note with a 2-0 win over arch rivals New Zealand.
“Players should be looked at rather then the district which is dominating,” Tadu said.
The former Rewa rep said he has undecided whether he wants to switch district with the transfer window opened.
“I have been approached by few districts to go and play for them but I have not thought about it or talked to our president Anil Sharma,” Tadu said
“With Navua we are a very strong team currently and we had a good year. We won the Fiji FACT title and the players get along very well,” Tadu said.
Tadu joined Navua last year and played a vital role in the FACT victory. Navua beat Vodafone Labasa 1-0 in the final at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park.
