Written By : SERA JANINE. Fuel prices have dropped for the fifth time in ten months.
The Prices and Incomes Board announced that effective from today there would be major decreases in the wholesale and retail prices of motor spirit, premix outboard fuel, diesel and kerosene.
The last fuel price decrease was at the beginning of last month.
Motor spirit will cost $1.58 per litre from $1.98, a decrease of 40 cents.
Diesel will cost $1.51 per litre from $1.70, a decrease of 19 cents.
Kerosene will cost $1.28 a litre from $1.46, a decrease of 18 cents while premix outboard fuel will cost $1.49 a litre from $1.90, a decrease of 41 cents.
The prices will differ in areas outside Suva, Lautoka and Lami because of additional cartage and delivery charges.
“The continuing decreases in oil prices is due to weakening global demand for pretroleum-based fuel,” a PIB statement said.
The board will review the fuel prices in February and indications are that the price decreases will continue.
The Consumer Council of Fiji has welcomed this latest decrease. However, it is unclear at the moment whether a decrease in bus and tax fares will also be implemented.
