Written By : SUN FIJI NEWSROOM. Development on the Nukulau Island leases was on hold SCC Deputy Mayor Ratu Josefa Gavidi confirmed yesterday.
Mr Gavidi said there the discussion on the leasing of Nukulau Island was on hold since November last year.
He said that the SCC was not aware of any further development on Nukulau Island because the Nukulau Island does not belong to the SCC but to the Lands.
He added that the SCC did not have any meeting with the Lands Department and all that could be revealed was that the discussions on the issue was still on hold.
“Before SCC was in charged of the Nukulau and since prisoners had been served there the government had taken it from us and left it under the Lands Department.
He added that the SCC would like to acquire for the lease again but since everything was on hold there was nothing they could do.
Mr Gavidi added that the SCC was waiting for the newly appointed administrators that would be appointed by the government and once the administrators would be chosen paper works and discussions would continue.
“The council is aware that a group of three or two will be appointed by the interim government but we do not know when the administrators will be appointed,’’ he added.
No comments could be obtained from the Lands Department.
