This year would be a challenging one for the sport with several big tournaments with the most notable ones are the World Youth Championships in Cook Islands and also the Pacific Mini-Games.
But Walker has set her standard high in trying to achieve her goals for the sport this year.
“My plans for 2009 season will be to create a winning environment within the National and U21 squad and create more officials for the development of netball within Fiji,” Walker said.
“I aim to get out to all regions, villages within Fiji and make our sport so accessible and enjoyed by everyone. It is a great sport for our young woman of Fiji. “Make netball a bigger named sport for all within Fiji both rural and local.
Another area that Walker is looking to improve on in the upcoming sporting for netball is sponsorship.
“To find a sponsor that will commit to netball Fiji for the next 5 years and get more funding and more companies involved so we can fulfill our objectives and aims,” Walker said.
Walker further stated that the year 2008 was a successful one and that she wants that standard to remain for the upcoming year.
“Each year gets harder and harder in sport as more codes get better. It becomes harder to access funding which makes it a lot more difficult on all sports – it is not professional”, Walker said. “2008 is a successful year for Netball Fiji in the fact that we have risen from the bottom of the pile and we have formed a great team with wonderful working executives and together we will put Fiji on the world map.” “This I feel 250% sure of – I have been blessed with some amazing management staff and with our teams picked I know our girls will not disappoint,”Walker added.
Apart from her plans for the sport Walker has also revealed her New Year resolution which she thinks might help her in taking netball to new heights in 2009.
“My New Years resolution is to build on “who we are” and become a formidable force within the sport of netball. To create an amazing environment within our camp, both players and management. To be fit, happy and healthy and strong,” Walker said.
“I want to contribute to the challenges and commit to what needs to be done and make good solid changes for our sport “netball” within Fiji”.
“To be happy, to create a sense of peace and joy but laugh and smile along the way, while ensuring my family enjoys the beautiful culture that Fiji has to offer and be healthy and happy.”
