Uninvited Morrell eyes Fiji jumper

The Namosi native did not want to miss the chance of playing for Fiji at the ANZ Pacific Nations Cup that he sent his curriculum vitae to national rugby coach Ilivasi Tabua.
“I was not invited to attend the trials,” the Auckland B openside flanker said.
“I wanted to know where I was so I took the first step. I wanted to give it a crack.”
Morrell plays his rugby with the Ponsby Rugby Club and has gone as far as playing for the Auckland B team in the National Provincial Championship.
Morrell said it was a good chance for him to see what he needs to do to make the final team.
The openside flanker believes he has a good chance but he is not going to count his chickens before they are hatched.
Morrell’s maternal links is in Tubou, Lakeba in Lau where top rugby players like Ilisoni Taoba, Henry Qiodravu, Tiko Matawalu and Akapusi Qera hail from.
He is confident that after the fitness test and the Monday trials that he will find his name in the Flying Fijians list to play against Tonga.
Morrell was part of the 19 players that had their fitness test at the Vodafone Arena and at the Hyundai Fitness Centre yesterday.
Players at the test were: Ilikena Bolakoro, Marika Vakacegu, Julian Vulakoro, Dan Baleinadogo, Wame Lewaravu, Jim Nagusa, Dan Rawaqa, Seru Rabeni, Semisi Naevo, Anthony Wise, Sakiusa Matadigo, Jone Daunivucu, James Brown, Vitori Buatava, Waisea Luveniyali, Christopher Maka, Vima Tuidraki, Sionasa Vunisa and Morrell.
