Written By : Mrs Neelam Chandra. Commerce department is one of the departments which teach students how to make use of the scarce resources to attain the basic needs and to have better standard of living.
The department offers commercial studies a compulsory subject for form three and four and Accounting and Economics for form five and form six.
The major aim of the department is to teach students how to make the maximum use of their scarce resources.
That is, land, labour, capital and entrepreneurship to satisfy their basic needs and to have better standard of living.
The students should be able to learn to make the best use of their income and also save for their unpredictable events.
They should become wise consumers so that they are not carried away by persuasive advertisements and lead to impulsive buying.
At the same time, the department also aims to make the students excel in their internal and external examination.
The commerce department encourages students to do backyard gardening not only for their own consumption but also for sale.
It wants the students to earn their own income and also to save. The department has already arranged with ANZ bank which fortnightly comes to the school for rural banking.
The department keeps on encouraging all the students to have an account and save for the future.
At the same time, the department plans various teaching strategies to make the lessons interesting and the students are able to learn.
Finally, I would like to thank the administrators for their help and support to make the commerce department at Waiqele Secondary School a successful department and would like to encourage students to take commerce subjects at each level as it teaches a lot about our day to day living.
