Five things to do

GO PEARLING
Visit the J Hunter Pearls Fiji headquarters in the main street of Savusavu town to see their award-winning pearls. Get a tour showing how they are produced. Buy some if they take your fancy.
Company founder Justin Hunter had a dream. Why not, he thought, grow pearls that looked nothing like the traditional black pearl? Why not produce pearls in beautifully distinctive hues that are also larger than what are traditionally grown?
So he did. Unspoiled locations in Savusavu and nearby Buca Bay provided a unique location for his aquaculture with the close involvement of local villagers.
GO DIVING
L’Aventure Divers operates a 37 foot custom-built enclosed cabin dive boat from the Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort.
It is equipped with the latest GPS plotter, colour depth sounder and radar.
Each morning the boat leaves the resort about 8:30am and returns for lunch around 12:30pm.
L’Aventure also operates a dive shop and provides PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certified courses.
GO TREKKING
Veteran travel agency and airline man Edward Bower heads Savusavu’s Trip n Tour company, in the Copra Shed Marina complex. Its trips include to the remote Wainunu Rainforest.
Trek alongside the river through mangrove to the Blue Parrot Homestead set on the banks of the Wainunu River Wilderness. Enjoy the hospitality of the present day Whippys who will take you hiking, snorkelling or boating/fishing.
A good hike will take you to a magnificent waterfall with inviting pools in the rainforest.
GO FISHING
Imagine trolling for Marlin in the deep blue, crystal clear waters off Savusavu. You can feel the fight of that 70-kg yellow fin tuna or the excitement of landing a 20-kg Wahoo.
With Savusavu-based Ika Levu Charters you will be on a 41-ft, modern, fully equipped vessel that sleeps up to 4 people.
It is powered by twin 320-hp Volvo engines and is complete with GPS, radar, depth sounder, cooking facilities and two cabin accommodations.
GO ADVENTURING
From Savusavu join adventure cruises of up to seven days aboard the converted schooner Tui Tai.
Visit Rabi, Kioa, and Qamea islands and the Ringgold Atolls plus popular Taveuni.
Activities include scuba diving and snorkelling, surfing, hiking, biking and kayaking.
The Tui Tai carries kayaks, mountain bikes, and fishing and diving equipment.
