Air Pacific’s new General Manager In-flight Services, Shaenaz Voss, says the route’s growing popularity made it necessary to have Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking assistance aboard.
She said: “Since the launch of our twice a week service to Hong Kong last December, the service has been hugely popular among Chinese customers.
“These customers will now be assured of having all their questions answered and their in-flight needs met with the availability of interpreters in outbound and inbound flights to Hong Kong.”
As well as serving Hong Kong, Air Pacific has easy connections with other Chinese cities through its partner, Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways.

TRAINING
AT NADI

Over the past week, the two interpreters – Fuk Yi Iris Chan and Sai Man Yasmine Hon – have been undergoing orientation.
This has been at the Air Pacific Training Centre, Nadi International Airport.
As part of their induction programme, they covered key subjects in customer services and expectations, airline standards and branding. Air Pacific’s manual on handling of customers with special needs was also examined.
Explained Meliki Kaumaitotoya, Air Pacific’s In-flight Services & Systems Manager:
“Now our cabin crew can concentrate solely on serving our customers and need not worry about attending to questions from our Chinese-speaking travellers.
“Customers who need help in filling their immigration cards, for example, can now expect personal attention when they fly with us on our Hong Kong service.”
Ms Chan, aged 25 and Ms Hon, 35, both said they were excited by the opportunity to work with the “world’s friendliest airline”.
Both are not strangers to the service industry. Ms Chan used to work as assistant manager for McDonald’s in Hong Kong. Ms Hon was a flight attendant for Kenyan Airways.
They returned to Hong Kong on Thursday and have now started work on the flights.
