This is the country’s oldest Club, says RSESA treasurer Albert Burt.
He said the Club has been operating for the last 60 years.
“It first started as a wooden building,” Mr Burt said.
“The rent was $1 per year after an agreement was reached with the Stinsons.”
Yesterday, Mr Burt spoke to the Fiji Sun about the Club and their plans for the future.

SUN: Who are the Club members?
BURT: Ex-servicemen and their families. Also, today we have soldiers as members and civilians who are our Associate members. We can also accommodate non-members provided they are able to abide by our regulations like putting on their best behaviour, being polite and respectful of other people as well.

SUN: How many members have you got?
BURT: We’ve got 3111 members

SUN: What makes this Club tick?
BURT: Probably we offer the cheapest drinks in the city. Fiji Bitter or Fiji Gold stubby costs $2.40 and $4.80 for the long neck. Nip of any kind is $1.60 per glass while a half bottle of Rum and Whiskey is at $25. At the moment we are not selling draft as we don’t have the facility to do that.

SUN: Your opening hours?
BURT: Monday to Saturday from 12midday to 9pm. At times especially on Fridays and Saturdays we always extend our hours to 10pm.
SUN: Anything else?
BURT: For membership Associate members (civilians) pay $25 per annum while Ex Servicemen pay $12 per annum. This does not include $3 for their ID cards.

SUN: Any future plans?
BURT: We are doing renovation works at the moment. These all started from last year in our mission to upgrade all our facilities and take the Club to another level.
