Written By : SITERI SAUVAKACOLO. PARENTS are once again being cautioned to take care of their children while escorting them to and from school.
The warning followed an incident where a six- year- old girl of Delainamasi Primary School outside Suva was hit whilst crossing the road opposite her school on Monday.
Assistant police spokesman Jone Kalouniviti said the young girl had freed herself from her mothers’ grip and ran across the road when a private vehicle driven by a 28-year-old man heading towards Suva swerved to try and avoid her but could not manage to.
“She has been admitted at the Children’s Ward at CWM Hospital with minor injuries and is now under observation,” Mr Kalouniviti said.
“Please be aware when handling your children on the roadside, as they tend to be frisky and will at times test their limits without knowing it can bring them harm.
“Also make use of the pedestrian crossings provided for near schools in the morning and afternoon.”
Mr Kalouniviti added this brings to eight the road accidents of this nature compared to 11 recorded in the same period last year.
