Written By : SUN FIJI NEWSROOM. Brief history – foundered when, by whom?
The first Commodore of the RSYC was T M McGuire. The club was founded circa 1930 and originally located closer to town. The current building was built circa 1940.

What can it offer for members and
non-members?
It offers a comprehensive range of facilities to boat owners plus social facilities for its associated members. The Game Fishing Club is also very active as well as the Junior Sailing, which operates at Laucala Bay. Overseas sailors are able to clear customs and quarantine at the club and for a small fee can use the facilities available.
Chandlery and Hard Stand Services are on offer and Asco Motors operates the Yamaha Service centre from the club’s premises.

What makes it tick?
The RSYC’s location in Walu Bay, Suva offers an awesome sunset view and garden bar experience. The Sails Restaurant does a brisk trade in lunches and dinners and the roasts on a Sunday are really popular. Carpenters Motors and Pacific Agencies sponsor two membership draws, one on Tuesday and one on Friday. Last week Carpenters Motors draw was won and it was worth $2150. At last weeks Mai TV Tuna Classic a 60kg Yellow fin won first prize and a sailfish was also tagged and released. “B” Class racing occurs most Sundays and you can see the boats competing around the Suva harbour.

Security?
24 hour security is on site.

Opening hours?
Seven days a week and it is limited to the laws of the day.

Happy hour?
Tuesday and Saturday from 5pm to 6pm.

Membership – how to apply?
Membership forms are available from the office. Complete form with photos and signatures of two full members are required. Over 800 members are registered.

Anything else out of the ordinary?
The history of the club can be found all around with trophies, photos and mementos that are on display around the club. Fiji’s oldest pilot boat and possibly its oldest Fiji-made sailboat are moored at the RSYC. It recently held its 78th AGM and with the help of generous sponsorship from Tower Insurance and Concrete Solutions, the new Bure Bar and barbeque are becoming very popular. With the 42” TV screen from Courts, it’s the best place to watch sports events like Super Rugby.
