The minister visited Vatuvonu during his tour to Savusavu recently. Vatuvonu was once a household name in the field of education in the late 60s to the early 80s being a Junior Secondary school.
Managed by the Seventh-day Adventist Mission in Fiji, it was closed in 1984 because of unseen circumstances. Formerly, it boasted one of the best technical and vocational centres in Fiji at that time.
Vatuvonu used to serve not only students in the local communities, but those from outside Vanua Levu and neighbouring Pacific island countries.
“To re-establish this secondary school will help absorb students especially for Form Three when Class Eight students will be promoted next year,” the minister said.
“I hope that Vatuvonu Secondary School will regain its pride and integrity.”
Most of the infrastructures in the school are still in good condition and Government will be providing some basic needs and assistance in maintenance work.
Mr Bole gave his blessings to Vatuvonu Secondary School and asked the people of Vatuvonu to support the development of the school until it becomes a full-fledged secondary school.
