Fijian-owned Likuliku Lagoon Resort yesterday celebrated with pride it’s naming by one of the world’s most prestigious travel magazines as in the World’s 20 Greatest Escapes.
Likuliku owner and managing director Tony Whitton said of its recognition and making the cover of America’s Islands Magazine’s 30th anniversary edition:
“We are a Fijian company with strong ties to the Fijian land-owning community. We are proud of our ancient Fijian traditions and cultures and sharing these with our guests.
“Being only five years old, we are humbled, but very proud to wave the Fiji flag at such an auspicious lineup of world renowned brands in the highly competitive and demanding North American market.
“It is good for Fiji, as it continues to show the world that Fiji has the capacity to stand proud and hold its own with the world’s best. We look forward to more North American guests visiting our shores this year as a result of this story.”
Likuliku Lagoon Resort, which opened its doors in April 2007 offering a couple’s only retreat and the country’s first ever over-water bures, is in the Mamanuca islands 25 kilometres from Nadi International Airport.
Likuliku was the only South Pacific Island resort listed as the “Editor’s Best Pick’, with the comment:”Likuliku is a place of calm waters. For the Editor, the resort’s beauty was only surpassed by the warmth of the staff.”
Likuliku was voted number one in the category “Over the Top Escapes” and was in the company of other world renowned luxury resorts including, Huvafen Fushi Maldives, Anjajavy Lodge Madagascar, and the Ani Luxury Villas, Anguilla, in the Caribbean.
Group general manager of Likuliku, Steve Anstey said, “We are delighted to be acknowledged in this way by the editor of Islands Magazine, together with their readers who have visited Likuliku.
“Islands is a leading publication in the North American market, and read by many discerning travellers.
“We thank them for recognising the resort and its wonderful staff, who continue to deliver on the promise of offering a unique Fijian experience with all the touches of a world class, exclusive island resort.”
Likuliku has 45 bures, all air conditioned and offering mesmerising views of the coral lagoon and ocean, with the over-water bures suspended over the reef edge.
To celebrate being named in the World’s Greatest Escapes this month, Likuliku is offering free return helicopter transfers for guests who stay seven nights.
