The Nausori Town Council has made new appointments after the recent approval of the Naulu/ Nakasi town planning scheme.
The appointments are to strengthen the management in the areas of enforcing law, integration with government agencies, improving business licensing, and ratable properties supervision to support the proposed town-planning scheme.
Newly appointed manager, Sailosi Qalilawa brings in a wealth of experience in local governance with his previous work as health/ building inspector at Savusavu Town Council and Nasinu Town Council.
Mr Qalilawa said his role would be to attend to queries and complaints and inform ratepayers concerned on the issue.
“I shall be in charge for the area and co-ordinate council duties and responsibilities,” he said.
Mr Qalilawa is very familiar with the area as he previously used to work there during the time when the Nasinu Town Council was looking after it on an interim basis.
Mr Qalilawa also said the newly-appointed team would assist the council in improving their service delivery.
“The improved service delivery includes streetlight maintenance and upkeep, solid waste management, grass cutting, drain cleaning and sweeping of all public places and infrastructure including open spaces,” he added.
“The team will be responsible for informing the council on a weekly and monthly basis on activities it is engaged in.”
Mr Qalilawa also added that the Naulu/ Nakasi area has 3975 ratable properties as per the last valuation.
“The Council in the previous years had been providing some services in the area because of limited resources however the council is aiming for an 80 percent operation capacity in this area for at least this year.”
