The Naitasiri Provincial High School is reconsidering opening its boarding facilities from the next school term.
This was revealed to the Minister for Education, Filipe Bole when he visited the school yesterday.
“We are trying to get our students to board to help address a number of problems that we have,” explained school principal, Mere Oli Taylor.
According to the principal, the two main issues to be addressed through boarding are the improvement of academic results and late arrival of students.
“We are looking at Forms 6 and 7 to come into boarding so that we can have more time with them,” said Mrs Taylor.
“There are students who travelled right from the interior.
“These students arrive late and have to leave early because the only bus they travel in arrives at 2.30pm daily. These students miss out on the last two periods each day.”
The school which operated boarding facilities before still has vacant dormitories.
While the major decision is yet to be made in the Parents and Teachers Association meeting, the Minister advised the school to be more serious in their approach towards education and make the best decision for their children’s education.
