Attracting a large crowd in Savusavu last weekend was the Nukuvula Kei Nukubati band performing outside the Savusavu Town Council building. The first Nukuvula Kei Nukubati album attracted local music fans that also saw a number of tourists flocking in to have the band sign autographs and buying their audio CDs.
The band’s lead singer Voggy Steiner said the dream of recording an album came up when he used to sing with the Drodrolagi kei Nautosolo duo at grog sessions and parties some years back.
“We also used to go about singing in various functions around Vanua Levu but this time I made sure we would release our very own album,” Mr Steiner said.
The band features renowned iTaukei singers like Jope Naucabalavu and Inoke Tabua of the Drodrolagi Kei Nautosolo band from Saqani in Cakaudrove.
“We sold about 100 CDs in Savusavu at $15 each and this was far more than we expected because in Labasa and Nabouwalu it was less than this.
“We know that people really love our 10 songs, I am glad our abilities have been recognised apart from this to sign autographs for the tourist was unexpected.
“The album called ‘Bula Dredre’ cost me about $2000 for 10 songs and the CDs cost around $3000 where we paid Manu Railoa for our recording.”
Mr Steiner said they chose to release their new album because the types of songs were high in demand during grog sessions.
Mr Steiner resides on Nukubati Island with his family and plans to write more songs in time to come.
