Former head girl of Adi Cakobau School, Talica Malani yesterday encouraged the staff of her old school to make submissions to the Constitution Review Commission.
Mrs. Malani, head girl in 1976, said this opportunity to participate in nation-building and our hopes for the future would not come again.
“This is the first time in Fiji that the public is given the chance to speak on what and how they want the country to be governed.”
Speaking on behalf of the National Substance Abuse Advisory Council where she now works as an education officer, Mrs. Malani, stressed that teachers must also urge their students to participate in the constitution process.
“In most cases our children, youths are neglected with their voice not heard, but we should know that they are our future, they are our leaders of tomorrow and engaging them now will help them to understand that their voice counts, their opinions is worth a deliberation.”
Mrs. Malani said in most cases we had a lot to say about the government, cost of living, culture and other issues adding this is the only time we can voice our opinions and ideas.
“It will be no use when the constitution process is over and we are still talking and discussing on what and how we should be governed, this is the time.”
After the presentation, teachers were determined to make submissions and guide their students on how to prepare and make their submissions.
The constitution review process will end on October 15.
