Death crash suspect pleads not guilty

The Nadi woman accused of causing the deaths of two civil servants in a horrific car accident in Sigatoka appeared at the Sigatoka magistrate’s court yesterday morning and was served the first set of disclosures after changing her guilty plea in the last court hearing.
Vijenta Banda had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving causing death and one count of dangerous driving, but changed her plea to not guilty in her second court hearing at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court last month after appearing before magistrate Siromi Turaga.
The 32-year-old appeared again yesterday for mentioning and her case has been adjourned to the 24th of this month.
The Police Prosecution Department will have to be given a report after pending inquiries have been conducted into the investigation.
Banda is alleged to have caused the deaths of acting director for social welfare, Lusiana Lala and her driver Marseu Mitchell.
Two passengers who were also in the same Government vehicle with the late Mrs. Lala and Mr Mitchell were hospitalised.
