The opening of Fiji’s latest embassy in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday is an opportunity for both countries to strengthen their relations.
Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama opened the new embassy in Abu Dhabi, demonstrating Government’s commitment towards enhancing international relations.
Commodore Bainimarama said the new mission would provide consular assistance to Fijians who live and work in the UAE and positioned Fiji’s interests in the region.
“I am also proud that this embassy will provide consular and citizenship services to the many Fijians who live and work in this part of the world, including the families who live in the U.A.E., many of whom are here today. No government can forget its citizens, no matter where they are,” Commodore  Bainimarama said.
“Fiji also has the ability to offer many niche export products that are not available elsewhere in the world. We have been a leader in the Pacific for ensuring that our products comply with international standards. In addition, many of our products take advantage of our pristine environment”.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the UAE’s growth over the years adding that the establishment of a new Fiji mission will provide the opportunity for Fiji to learn from the UAE’s experience.
“The UAE has shown the world how development and economic growth can take place in a relatively short span of time for the benefit of your citizens through a focused vision and inspirational leadership.
“With our formal presence in UAE from today, we look forward to learning from and working together with UAE and her people for the mutual benefit of both our nations”.
The Minister of State of the UAE, Reem Al Hashimi delivered her address to guests at the event which included Fiji’s heads of diplomatic missions based from around the region, and diplomatic officials from other foreign missions based in the UAE.
