A friend of mine called me last week and said that he found something interesting that he wanted to know more about.
I went and had a look and found that some people were doing fumigation on a public road in Lautoka. We the people of Lautoka already have termite infestation problems. As for me I know that all fumigation for imports are supposed to be done at the port of entry where proper facilities to contain pests are available.  Transporting containers to owners premises for fumigation can lead to pests falling on the roadside and breeding and going into our environment.
I am sure our Government cannot afford to have another pest outbreak like when we had the termite problem.
We have to safeguard our environment and one way is to have imports fumigated at the wharf. Using ozone depleting substance on a public road and trying to contain it paints a bad picture on the authorities concerned.
Or maybe the pest control association can explain.
