Fiji security personnel’s, family, and friends celebrated and commemorated the feast day of St Michael, the patron saint of warriors yesterday.
Held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva, the mass included security personnel from the Fiji Police Force, Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Corrections Service dressed in full attire.
The mass was hosted by the Cprrections department who acknowledged all those who had made the celebration possible.
St Michael’s feast day is commemorated by Catholics on September 29 every year.
Delivering the sermon, Father Isaia Sela told the gathered to make sense of their lives by knowing their full identity which would reveal their inner beings.
Father Sela encouraged officers to stay true to their call and identities by serving God faithfully.
Prayers were echoed throughout the Cathedral for the Fijian Government including the President and the Prime Minister and the 2014 General Election.
Special homage was also paid to Fiji security persons who had died.
Officers were also reminded to be inspirations and examples to the younger generation and help those who have entrusted hopes in them. Four wreaths were presented in the Cathedral by officers from the various security forces as a symbol of loved ones who had died in service.
The Mass was followed by a feast and refreshments provided by the women, with entertainment and a clean up around the church under light showers.
