It was a day of activities at Stella Maris Primary School in Suva yesterday as the school held its annual fun day.
The school has held its fundraising event simultaneously with the fun day to raise funds for its school canteen upgrade.
Parents Teachers Association president William Singh dubbed both events as a success.
“The school has its diamond jubilee in 2014 and we are preparing for that. We are hoping to renovate and refurbish the school canteen and other school facilities,” Mr Singh said.
“There are currently four houses that were part of the festivities, they are Saint Peter, Saint Mario, Saint Theresa and Saint Francis. The houses were passing out messages such as healthy leaving and taking care of the environment.”
Mr Singh said: “Non-communicable diseases are on the rise in children and adults. We have to change the eating habits and lifestyle of our children now to be able to combat this problem and sustain it in the future.”
Students, teachers and parents were part of this day at the school.
Mr Singh said the fundraising started from scratch and they have a school roll of 320 students and 220 families.
“The main objective of the programme today was for families and friends of the Stella Maris community to come together.”
He said the management wanted to acknowledge all the people who contributed to the event.
