Canada won the inaugural Veteran 42 category tournament after beating New Zealand 3-0 in the final of the 8th FANCA Muslim Soccer tournament at Churchill Park, Lautoka, yesterday.
Irshad Khan opened the floodgates in the 13th  minute.
In the 20th minute, former Nadi rep Iqbal Khan extended their lead while former Ba rep Meera Ahmed had the last laugh in the second spell in the 48th minute.
Canada had services of former district reps such as Talat Khan who played for Labasa and Nadi and Nasinu goalkeeper Bobby Izaz.
“This is the best achievement for all the individuals in this team,” said Zarim Khan, the Canada veteran 42 team manager.
“Nine of the players in the team were members of the 1997 team.
It is a good reunion for those players and for Canada management team as well.”
Meanwhile, in the Master 35 category, Australia thumped Canada 3-0.
Australia Muslim team captain and goalkeeper Mohammed Hakeek was over the moon with the performance of his team.
“This was the second time we win this category, first was in Australia few year ago,” said Hakeek.
Australia’s Arif Azam scored the team’s first goal in the 6th minute and later Roukshad Mohammed scored two goals in the 33rd and 40th minute to thump Canada.
