The five inmates who escaped from the Naboro Medium Facility on Monday, September 17 are due to appear before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili today.
Epeli Qaraniqio, 30, Isoa Waqa, 30, Josaia Usumaki, 25, Solomoni Qurai, 28 and Tevita Sugu, 29, were ordered by Chief Magistrate Ratuvili to be produced in court.
They are currently serving sentences ranging from burglary, aggravated robbery, murder, and robbery with violence.
The timeline was served to Police by the court on Monday, September 24 when four of the recaptured escapees, who were caught on Friday September 21, were not produced in court.
Chief Magistrate Ratuvili was told that the prisoners could not attend the court hearing because they were admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, in an earlier interview Police Director of Operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu, confirmed to the Fiji Sun that as of Friday, Isoa Waqa, Solomoni Qurai, and Epeli Qaraniqio were still admitted in hospital.
ACP Tudravu said Sugu and Usumate had been questioned and were in Police custody.
He said the other three inmates were due to be questioned in time for today’s court appearance.
“We’re working on this timeline and we’ll honour it,” ACP Tudravu said.
