Preparations are underway by a pair of senior and junior chefs that will represent Fiji at the upcoming Bred Bank Culinary Art Show and Pacific Rim Challenge in Vanuatu.
The senior chef is the reigning chef of the year Arun Raman Naicker from the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa.
The competing duo will go up against other chefs from Australia, New Zealand, Guam and hosts Vanuatu in Port Vila on October 30th.
Accompanying them will be Fiji Chef’s president Shailesh Naidu, the executive chef of Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji Resort and Spa.
Mr Naidu said that while they anticipated the Masterchef style competitions, they were also expecting a rigid challenge from their fellow participants.
‘’This will be a big challenge because five countries will be competing and have put a lot of hard work into their preparations, and Vanuatu have put in really good stuff,’’ he said.
A week before the Vanuatu meet, local chefs and culinary enthusiasts will get an opportunity to participate in World Chefs Day celebrations on October 20th.
For the occasion, the Outrigger on the Lagoon Resort and Spa is hosting the final competition of a Chef’s Challenge amongst students of Sigatoka Andhra College.
Mr Naidu said a group of chefs from surrounding resorts had been dispatched to mentor the aspiring chefs in the lead up to the finals.
