Lautoka rep Zibraz Sahib scored twice as Fiji beat Canada 2-1 in the main final of the 8th FANCA Muslim Soccer tournament in Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.
Shahib scored the first goal in the 2nd minute which caught Canada goalkeeper Waseem Khan unaware
Canada replied to level the score in the 44th minute through Alfaaz Khan. Just after one minute of play Sahib scored Fiji’s winning goal via a header following a corner from Javed Hussein.
Fiji Muslim team vice-captain/goalkeeper Sheik Moshin thanked his players for the outcome.
“We won the competition because we have very experienced players in the team,” said Moshin.
“We needed to win this tournament badly after we lost in two FANCA finals in Australia and New Zealand few years ago.
“It has been sweet to have players like Zibraz Sahib. I thank Rishi (Kumar) for releasing Abhu Zahid to play in the final after he was in camp with the Ba team.”
Fijis last won the main tournament back in 1996.
Meanwhile, Fiji also won the Under-21 category after defeating defending champions NZ 1 – 0.
