Police director of operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu last night said from Nadi that four people would face court today for allegedly assaulting a tourist from New Zealand.
He said the suspects were arrested in a police special operation after the tourist was allegedly assaulted in his hotel room in Nadi on Thursday.
“I confirm that four will appear in court tomorrow (today) and we will not condone actions by some members of the public who will cause fear and instability among our communities,” ACP Tudravu said.
“We want Fiji to be safe for everyone,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary for Tourism, Elizabeth Powell, while responding to Fiji Sun queries, confirmed the assault on the New Zealand tourist.
“He is now at the Lautoka Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit where his condition is currently reported as stable,” Ms Powell said
“Multiple Government agencies are assisting the patient and his family, including the Fiji Police Force who have apprehended the suspected perpetrators of the crime.”
