The Navua soccer team is facing a major setback ahead of the Courts Inter-District Championship next week.
Some players failed to turn up at training for the past few days because they were not paid with the bonus from their games against Tavua and Nadroga in the Fiji Sun/ GP Batteries National League competition.
Navua Football president Gopal Naidu confirmed that players didn’t want to attend IDC training because they haven’t been paid. “We can’t do much to help them,” Naidu said.
“The association is in desperate need at the moment as we don’t have funds to pay our players and we don’t even have money to prepare for IDC.
“This is why we are facing these kinds of problems.”
Naidu said this has not deterred other players from training as they were determined to send a young side to the tournament.
“We have players training which shows that we can still go to the IDC and we haven’t given up hope despite the problems we have been facing for the past week.
“We are trying our best and are also looking for ways we can help these players.
He is also calling on ardent Navua fans and the whole Navua community to support their team financially for the IDC in Ba.”
