For almost 10 years now, the University of the South Pacific’s School of Economics has been successfully organising annual economy update.
The Fiji Economy Update 2012 will be held today at the Holiday Inn Suva.
The discussions will bring together research output on various aspects on the Fijian economy in an attempt to assist policy-makers to make informed policy decisions.
USP’s head of School of Economic, Saqib Jafarey, said the forum would be a platform for discussion and debate around policies and topical issues of concern for the economy.
“This year’s focus during the economy update would be on Fiji’s macroeconomic performance and prospects for growth over the next few year as well as microeconomic of development in terms of social welfare, poverty and housing,” he said.
Mr Jafarey confirmed the forum would be attended by academics, government officials, international representatives, members of the diplomatic corp amongst others.
It would be opened by the chief executive of Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority, Jitoko Tikolevu.
Mr Jafarey said the first part of the forum would be presentations by academics and the second part being panel discussions.a
