The driver of the Nasese bus carrying primary and secondary school students which was attacked by a group of Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) students has spoken out regarding the incident on Monday afternoon.
Speaking to the Fiji Sun, Rajesh Prasad said that while driving along Macgregor Road on Monday afternoon a passenger got off at the bus stop near Holy Trinity Primary School.
He did not know that MBHS students were running after the bus and when the bus stopped they attacked those in the bus by throwing items into the bus and also climbed onto the side of the bus.
“A Suva Grammar student who was caught offguard was hit by a stick by one of the Marist boys and as a result was injured in the eye area,” Mr Prasad said.
“Another Grammar student was punched on the chin,” he said.
“These attacks by the Marist boys were from outside and no one entered the bus as a Veiuto Primary School teacher was inside the bus who told the Marist boys not to come in,” he added.
He said the students in the bus then yelled out “Driver go! Driver go!”as they were terrified by the sudden attack.
He then drove straight to the Totogo Police Station and lodged a formal complaint with the Police.
The rear window of the bus was damaged and the estimated cost of damage was $600.00.
According to Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro both victims were given medical treatment and investigations are continuing.
Ms Naisoro said they were seriously concerned as the bus carrying primary and secondary school students was attacked by a group of students of a prominent Suva school.
Meanwhile a 19-year old MBHS student has been charged with assault and will appear in court today.
