The Fijiana rugby side was hosted to a lunch at the Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa on the Coral Coast yesterday.
The team departs for Pune, India today for the Asian Rugby Women’s Championship.
Fiji Rugby Union chief executive  Manasa Baravilala and Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee president Vidhya Lakhan farewelled the team who will try to qualify for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow next year.
Fijiana head coach Elenoa Kunatuba said the speech from the two men was inspiring and encouraging to the girls.
“ We did not expect a big farewell but we thank Manasa Baravilala, Vidhya Lakhan and Lorraine Mar for their lovely words of encouragement,”she said.
“The girls were really touched with those words and have now boosted their morale to perform better.”
Also wishing the girls the best of luck was Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa operations manager Joana Naikatini.
Naikatini said the 12-member team need to do their best and keep the Fiji flag high. She adds on saying having the Fijiana side at the resort was a blessing.
The resort has been hosting the rugby union boys in the past and not forgetting Fiji’s golden boy Iliesa Delana but it is the first time to host the female rugby team
“From the management and staff at the Fiji Hideaway Resort, we wish them the best of luck.”
Kunatuba is urging the people of Fiji to support the girls.
“Our target is to play well in Pune that will guarantee us a spot in the world cup next year all we asking the public to do is to pray for us and show their support.”
