“Give honour to whom honour is due”.
This is what this dynamic woman Shamima Ali deserves for the nearly 30 years of tireless work to bring about changes in the lives of thousands of women and children in Fiji and the Pacific Region.
President Obama once said, “A change is brought about because ordinary people do extraordinary things”.
This would explain the awarding of the USA Woman of Courage Award to Ms Ali a few years ago and the recognition of her perseverance by the United Nations to appoint her to a number of select Expert Groups.
I certainly do not condone any acts of crime nor do I support any escape from lawful captivity, but I do understand what Ms Ali was referring to.
She was talking about our basic human rights (for all human beings), the same as she had been consistently stressing for as long as I can remember her (beacon of light) when I was struggling through life many, many years ago. Walter Lippmann, A Preface to Morals, stated, “It requires wisdom to understand wisdom.” Some do.
