Teachers play a vital role in the lives of the students they teach.
Their contribution  towards the education of the children in their care cannot be emphasised further.
Their input is invaluable.
World Teachers’ Day is a day when teachers, education personnel, students, parents, school managements and communities mobilise to ensure that the needs of future generations are taken into consideration.
On this World Teachers’ Day, I salute all the teachers of Fiji and Rotuma for their dedicated services to the children of Fiji and the community at large.
In particular, I salute all the teachers who are serving in the remote / rural areas, teachers who are away from their beloved ones. I pay homage to the teachers who have retired after providing decades of dedicated service to the children of Fiji.
I am aware of the fact that many teachers have dedicated their entire working life in the service of children in remote / rural schools.
It is about time that the Ministry of Education devised a policy that would enable a teacher, who has served in a rural school, say for five years, be given a transfer to a school of their choice[where possible] or in the district of their choice.
Finally, I wish each and every teacher a meaningful World Teachers’ Day.
Let’s take a stand for teachers.
